EU gives Apple the green light to produce iPhones without Type-C port

Apple considered releasing the iPhone 17 Air without a charging port. The smartphone would have become the first model with exclusively wireless charging. However, the idea was quickly dismissed due to fears of a conflict with the European Union.

At the same time, the EU noted that a gadget without a port didn’t violate any regulations. The law only applies to the fact that if there is a connector, it must be USB Type-C.

In January 2023 the company transferred its developments on MagSafe to the Wireless Power Consortium. This is what formed the basis of the Qi2 standard. This means that a phone without a port, but with MagSafe, will not cause problems with regulators.

Yes, the iPhone 17 Air will most likely come with a charging port, but everything may still change in the future 18th lineup.
